Our Tour Leaders

In the past decade David has devoted his life to butterflies - sharing them with guests, but also working proactively on the committee of the European Butterfly Group, and (until recently) as an identification consultant on the UK Butterflies website.

Jon is a natural history writer, photographer and experienced wildlife tour leader based in the Shetland Isles, but with strong links in Europe and the Americas that see him travelling widely in search of memorable wildlife encounters.

For as long as he can remember, David has been passionate about birds and wildlife. This has led to a varied career in conservation, mainly working for the RSPB, and leading wildlife tours in Europe and beyond.

Pau, from Gandia in Spain, has a lifelong interest in wildlife. He’s a professional ornithologist and wildlife guide, but finds time to work as a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València, teaching Zoology and Wildlife Management.

Paul’s been passionate about nature and the environment all his life. In his early teenage years, this began with birdlife, learning most UK bird songs, helping him to identify the last ever breeding Turtle Doves in his home county, Cheshire.

Kate Humble is a writer and television presenter. A committed and passionate advocate for the natural world, she was the first female president of the RSPB in its 110 year history, and is currently president of the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust.

Richard is a father of three, botanist, photographer and wildlife tour guide based near the South Lakes. His particular interest is in orchids, and this has led him to develop an expertise in the species of Britain and Europe.

Juan Pablo is a biologist with an MSc in Conservation Biology. He has a particular interest in Iberian butterflies, and also enjoys photography and hiking - often all three interests coincide!

An experienced tour leader, János is an ecology graduate from the University of Debrecen. A lifelong birder, he maintains a keen interest in other varied aspects of the natural world, including butterflies.

Sarah is a professional garden and plant photographer, her career spanning 20 years has taken her across the UK, Europe and the Americas, working with world class magazines and publishers.

Peter has lived in the Pyrenees for 33 years, where he leads history, natural history and gentle walking holidays for the inquisitive from the beautiful Casa Sarasa guesthouse.

A highly experienced wildlife tour leader of many years standing, Brian is a renowned birder and accomplished artist. Brian’s passion for birds started as a young boy, with a love of drawing them rapidly following.

Emmanuelle is a keen naturalist and former ranger for the National Trust, with a particular interest in butterflies and birds, and wildlife photography in general. She also plays a mean game of petanque!

One of Italy’s foremost naturalists, Andrea lives on his native Sicily, but travels widely for work throughout Italy, Europe and beyond.

Martin is a zoologist by training and an enthusiastic, all-round field naturalist who spends as much of his time as he can outdoors in UK and abroad, studying birds, mammals and plants, but especially butterflies and moths.

Michele has a lifelong interest in nature. Since childhood, animals, flowers, and nature in general fascinated him deeply and, nowadays, as he spends most of the year out in the wild, nature is, basically, his homeland.

Based in southwest England, David has been a lifelong naturalist and worked as a freelance survey entomologist for more than 35 years.

Rebecca is a professional botanist currently completing her PhD in plant sciences. Her fascination for plants, with a particular sweet spot for terrestrial orchids, developed during her early childhood in Germany, which led her to choose a career in botanical horticulture.
