David Jenner

David has been immersed in the natural world since childhood in Devon, where he explored the local moors, coasts and heaths looking for, and identifying, all creatures great and small. His passion led him towards a career in Veterinary Medicine but after work experience with a vet, he decided to follow a path in Medicine and keep this love for the natural world and animals as a hobby.

David has worked for 35 years as a GP in Devon and is now 'nearly retired', just working as a locum in winter, and keeping the rest of the year free to explore wildlife.

Despite a busy career and raising four children with his wife Kathy, he has visited all seven continents and, for the last ten years, has developed a specific interest in butterflies. Having seen and photographed all of the UK’s butterfly species plus all the Odonata, he has with Mariposa enjoyed exploring new European destinations and butterfly species.

Nothing excites him more than the thrill of exploring new habitats and helping others to find and identify their target species, and he is delighted to join the Mariposa team. David also volunteers for various charities in the UK, including Devon Wildlife Trust, ORCA, and MARINElife to keep busy in retirement and help connect others with nature.
